Live vidchat “The Church that Kickstarted Vegetarianism”. Sun 11th 🕙 PST 🕕 GMT

Our second vegetarian history live vidchat brings together two historian who covered the same movement from opposite ends, but have never talked before.

Organised vegetarianism in the 19th century mostly goes back to one church, the “Bible Christians”. They were the heart of “Radicals & Romantics”, episode 12 of “Vegetarianism: The Story So Far”. I interviewed local historian Derek Antrobus about the church in Salford, England, and American academic Adam Shprintzen about the church in Philadelphia USA.

The two historians will talk for the first time and compare transatlantic notes in a live video chat with me on Sunday at 1800 GMT.  What would you like to ask them, or me, about the history or modern history of vegetarianism in general and the Bible Christians in particular? Please comment.

Vidchat with Dr Adam Shprintzen on US #VegHist

Short YouTube Live VidChat with Dr Adam Shprintzen, author of “The Vegetarian Crusade: The Rise of an American Reform Movement”, and American history expert in “Vegetarianism: The Story So Far” episodes 12 through 14.

Harish Bhimani (on Wikipedia)

Indian listeners might recognise the voice behind Mohandas in episode 13 onwards. Harish Bhimani narrated the 1988-90 Indian TV adaption of “Mahabharata”, amongst many other roles. He’s one of India’s best-known voice over actors, and I’m very happy that he’s lending his talents to the story of vegetarianism.

Buy Vegetarian History Books

When people  suggest I write a book about the history of vegetarianism, I say that there already are quite a few good books. These are the books on vegetarian history I found most helpful whilst making the series, with Amazon links (that give me a little commission).
